SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Workington
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM (Monday to Friday)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join our primary school team in Workington. This is a varied role working mainly with children with Autism on a 3:1 basis, rotating with other staff to provide consistent support. You will play a key role in helping pupils access learning and thrive in a safe, inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils with SEND needs, primarily Autism, in small groups and individually.
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using appropriate strategies.
- Help pupils develop communication, social, and academic skills.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and other staff to ensure pupil progress.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to individual support plans.
Essential Requirements:
- Valid Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and show patience and empathy.
Desirable:
- Professional experience working with children.
- Experience supporting individuals with SEND needs, particularly Autism.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE) – desirable but not essential.
