We’re looking for a Data Engineer (Grade 11) to join the Architecture function at Elexon on a permanent basis.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in designing, building, and optimising the data infrastructure that underpins Elexon’s cloud-based Data Analytics Platform. Working closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, and business stakeholders, you’ll help deliver scalable, reliable, and high-performing data pipelines and products that support Settlement and the wider GB electricity market.
This is a unique opportunity to work with large-scale energy datasets (over 1.5 billion daily meter readings), helping shape the next generation of data engineering capability and analytics services for the industry.
What you’ll do:
Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes
Build and optimise cloud-based data solutions to support analytics, reporting, and operational systems
Ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability across multiple data sources and platforms
Develop and maintain data models, storage solutions, and integration frameworks
Support the ingestion and processing of large-scale electricity market and Settlement datasets
Collaborate with Data Scientists and Analysts to enable advanced analytics and machine learning use cases
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting processes to ensure platform stability and performance
Apply DataOps and engineering best practices for automation, testing, deployment, and CI/CD
Optimise performance and cost efficiency of cloud data platforms and processing workloads
Contribute to data engineering standards, governance, documentation, and best practices
What you’ll bring:
Strong experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform, or ETL development roles
Strong SQL and Python skills for data processing and transformation
Experience building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and distributed data processing solutions
Experience working with large and complex datasets in cloud environments
Understanding of data modelling, warehousing, and data architecture principles
Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as Azure and Databricks
Familiarity with orchestration and workflow tools such as Azure Data Factory or similar
Understanding of CI/CD, automation, and DevOps/DataOps practices
Ability to troubleshoot and optimise data pipeline performance and reliability
Comfortable working in cross-functional, Agile environments
Experience within energy, utilities, or regulated industries (desirable)
