JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for carrying out underground cabling activities to support the installation and maintenance of fibre networks on the Openreach PIA network. Duties include test rodding and roping existing duct, assessing network conditions to ensure successful cable installation, and installing sub-duct and fibre via pulling methods.
The role includes identifying blockages, defects, or obstructions within the duct network, producing A55 reports for civils issues encountered, and applying civils avoidance techniques to maintain build efficiency. Where required, alternative routes must be identified and implemented to safely bypass network constraints while maintaining programme delivery.
A strong focus on Health & Safety, network integrity, and compliance with industry standards and company procedures is essential at all times.
Role Responsibility

The role includes identifying blockages, defects, or obstructions within the duct network, producing A55 reports for civils issues encountered, and applying civils avoidance techniques to maintain build efficiency. Where required, alternative routes must be identified and implemented to safely bypass network constraints while maintaining programme delivery.

Key Accountability
- Carry out test rodding and roping of existing duct to prove routes
- Install fibre cables and sub-duct using blowing and pulling methods
- Ensure all works are completed in accordance with relevant standards and specifications
- Assess duct conditions and identify blockages, defects, or obstructions
- Produce A55 reports for civils issues encountered on the network
- Apply civils avoidance techniques to minimise disruption to build
- Identify and implement alternative routing where required
- Work within chambers and joint boxes safely and effectively
- Read and interpret job packs, network schematics, and routing plans
- Ensure correct handling and protection of fibre cables at all times
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and update documentation
- Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations and company procedures
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential Requirements:
- UK resident
- Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 points)
- Proven experience in underground cabling or telecoms installation
- Experience working on PIA / Openreach network
- Demonstrable experience in test rodding, roping, and cable installation within existing duct networks
- Experience identifying blockages and producing A55 reports
- Understanding of civils avoidance techniques and route deviation in live network environments
- SA002 – Underground Safety
- S7 – PIA Sub-duct & Cable Installation
- K8 – Hand Rodding in Underground Network ·
- NRSWA Signing, Lighting & Guarding (street works) accreditation
- Confined Spaces (Medium Risk as a minimum)
- Ability to read and interpret network plans and job packs
- Strong understanding of installation standards and specifications
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions
- Good level of physical fitness and ability to work outdoors Preferrable
- Blown fibre experience
- Operating jetting unit experience

Pay: Up to £57,200.00 per year
