Job Overview
We are seeking a professional and experienced HGV Driver Class 1 to join our logistics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods across various locations, ensuring timely deliveries and maintaining high standards of safety and compliance. This role offers an excellent opportunity for drivers with a strong background in commercial driving, particularly those familiar with curtainside load bearing operations and delivery services. The job involves staring around 5am at the depot in Erith driving to Dagenham to collect a full load of bulk bags to deliver to building merchants then back to Dagenham to complete a second run. No night out or weekends unless wanted, although you can stay out in the truck for the week if wanted.
Duties
- Operate curtainside lorry in accordance with all safety regulations and company policies
- Conduct pre-journey vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and safety standards are met
- Deliver goods to designated locations efficiently.
- Handle loading and unloading procedures, ensuring cargo is secured properly during transit
- Maintain accurate documentation of deliveries, including delivery notes.
- Comply with all legal requirements related to driving hours, tachograph regulations, and road safety laws
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery schedules or any issues encountered during transit
- Ensure the vehicle is kept clean and well-maintained throughout the shift
Qualifications
- Valid HGV Driver’s Licence (Class 1) with a clean driving record
- Delivery driver experience is highly desirable
- Knowledge of road safety regulations and compliance standards within the UK transport industry
- Ability to operate curtainside lorries safely and efficiently
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail for accurate documentation and vehicle checks
- Good communication skills to liaise effectively with team members and clients
