Shepcote is a family run business founded in 1969 based in Driffield, East Yorkshire. We pride ourselves on our first-class products and first-class service. We source and supply sugar and syrups and ingredients such as nuts, seeds and dried fruit and beans, pulses and grains to bakeries, food service, health food shops and retail outlets including farm shops and delicatessens. We manufacture marzipan fruits and cake decorations under our own brand and own label.
The Role
We are seeking an Assistant Production Manager to assist in overseeing our factory operations and leading our production team. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a balance of operational efficiency, team management, and a commitment to quality. You will be responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, meeting production targets, maintaining safety and compliance, and fostering a motivated, high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in leading and managing the factory team
- Oversee the factory operations, maintaining high standards of quality, efficiency, and safety
- Plan and manage production schedules, ensuring targets are met
- Maintain and improve production processes, machinery, and workflows to maximise efficiency and quality
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety, food safety (HACCP Level 3 training would be advantageous; training can be provided), and quality standards at all times
- Take an active role in driving continuous improvement in food safety and quality standards
- Monitor staffing, training and performance management within the factory team
- Work closely with procurement, technical, and logistics teams to maintain smooth operations and meet customer requirements
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement changes effectively
- Support the General Manager with operational planning and reporting

- Proven experience in an assistant production management or a similar role within a manufacturing or food environment
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Hands-on approach and practical understanding of factory operations
- Knowledge of health & safety requirements in production settings
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities
- Good communication skills across all levels
- Proactive, practical, and results-oriented approach
Key skills & experience:
- Level 2 Food Safety as a minimum
- HACCP level 2 as a minimum
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively
- Reliable and self-motivated
- Positive, enthusiastic attitude.
What We Offer
- Salary: £37,500
