Role Purpose
To deliver high-quality, holistic advice and support to vulnerable residents across Stroud and Cotswold districts as part of the Community Advice Projects, including Advice First Aid. The role involves working collaboratively with partner organisations and frontline services to address issues such as benefits, debt, housing, and employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice via telephone, email, face-to-face, and outreach settings (e.g. community hubs, libraries).
- Assess client needs, explore options, and support informed decision-making.
- Deliver casework support, including benefit calculations, debt assessments, and drafting correspondence.
- Negotiate with relevant third parties where appropriate.
- Support grant applications in line with relevant criteria.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure timely follow-up with clients.
- Support the delivery of Community Partner training and outreach services.
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Contribute to continuous service improvement through feedback and best practice.
- Collect and record data to meet funder reporting requirements.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with local frontline teams and partners.
- Manage referrals and represent the organisation at relevant meetings where required.
- Contribute to research and campaigns by identifying emerging client issues.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and undertake ongoing training.
- Attend meetings and use IT systems for case management and reporting.
Person Specification (Summary)
- Experience of advice work or transferable skills (training provided for suitable candidates).
- Knowledge of social welfare issues (e.g. benefits, debt, housing, employment).
- Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills.
- Ability to manage competing demands and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong person resilience able to self motivate and solve problems to achieve positive outcomes.
- Accurate record keeping and attention to detail.
- Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ability to travel to outreach locations across the district.
- Full driving licence and access to a car.
Desirable
- Experience within Citizens Advice or similar environment.
- Knowledge of welfare benefits or debt advice.
- Experience supporting vulnerable clients.
