Job Description:
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain, inspect, install, repair, replace, and modify liquid fuel storage and distribution systems and their electrical components.
Some of the duties that you will be performing in this role include inspection and testing of fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities, performing preventative maintenance on fuel systems and components, such as but not limited to, all phases of liquid fuel system and component maintenance. This will include the troubleshooting and repair in the electrical components of liquid fuel distribution systems. You will remove and install components of fuel systems, to correct malfunctions and perform modifications of systems in accordance with applicable manuals, technical publications and manufactures specifications. In addition, you will clean the interior surface of bulk storage tanks, above and below ground, by entering tanks utilizing safety practices and procedures and following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Qualifications and Key skills:
NVQ/City and Guilds Level 2 Welding and Mechanical Engineering certification, orHND/HNC/BTEC, is desirable.
A valid UK category B driving license is required for this position
1 year of specialized experience as per the key skills listed below:
- Knowledge of fuel distribution and storage systems; of the physical properties and hazards associated with the handling of various types of petroleum fuels; and of preventive maintenance and inspection techniques as applied to fuel distribution and storage systems.
- Knowledge of the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical components such as electric motors, disconnect switches, starters, contactors, solenoids, and magnetic switches.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices.
- Skill in calibration of fuel dispensing systems and tank and pressure gauges.
- Skill in techniques used to measure, cut, thread, join, and fit piping and tubing.
- Ability to analyze deficiencies and diagnose malfunctions of system components such as automatic control valves, pumps, flow meters, etc.
Conditions of employment:
- You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
- You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
- You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
- Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies. Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
- You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
- The work will require you be certified in the use of a respirator and qualified for entry into hazardous liquid fuel tanks for inspection, cleaning, and repair.
- You may be required to complete MOD/HSE/USVF Confined Space (explosive atmosphere) training and the required medical testing for pressurized air rescue.
- You will be required to pass a Pre-Appointment physical/health screening.
- You must successfully obtain and maintain any necessary occupational related training/certificates in accordance with US and UK industry standards, and complete all management directed training.
