Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Depot Manager to join our team at in Leigh, England. You will be responsible for the overall management and profitability of the depot ensuring all performance measures are achieved. This includes overseeing daily operations, ensuring the safe and efficient hire of powered access equipment, maintaining high standards of customer service and managing depot staff and resources effectively.
Key accountabilities
- Oversees the day-to-day running of the depot, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
- Manages the availability, utilisation and scheduling of powered access equipment.
- Ensures all equipment is maintained, inspected and compliant with relevant safety and
- regulatory standards.
- Coordinates transport logistics, including deliveries, collections and route planning.
- Enforces strict adherence to health and safety policies, procedures and legislation.
- Ensures all depot activities comply with LOLER, PUWER and other relevant regulations.
- Conducts regular safety audits, risk assessments and toolbox talks.
- Promotes a strong safety culture within the depot team.
- Leads, manages and motivates depot staff including drivers, engineers and administrative
- personnel.
- Conducts performance reviews, training and development plans.
- Manages staffing levels, rotas and recruitment where necessary.
- Fosters a positive, productive and accountable working environment
- Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction through efficient service delivery.
- Handles customer queries, complaints and escalations professionally.
- Supports business development by maintaining relationships with key clients.
- Monitors depot KPIs including utilisation rates, turnaround times and revenue targets.
- Manages depot budgets, costs and financial performance.
- Controls expenditure, including maintenance, transport and staffing costs.
- Oversees stock control, asset tracking and inventory management.
- Ensures accurate and timely completion of administrative and financial records.
- Ensures all powered access equipment is serviced, repaired and inspected in line with company and legal requirements.
- Works closely with engineers to minimise downtime and maximise fleet reliability.
- Maintains accurate service and inspection records.
- Supports wider business priorities, flexing to meet the evolving needs of the organisation.
- Accountable for HSSEQ leadership and compliance with all company policies and procedures. Promote the highest standards of HSSEQ and integrity with all members of staff; ensuring that operations minimise any impact on the environment with all data collated and recorded in the company tracking system. Work closely with HSSEQ advisors to improve site performance in all areas.
- Ensure business line complies with company GALP requirements and follows the approvals process.
- Lead, motivate and develop people, fostering accountability, engagement and a strong performance culture.

Person Specification
Qualifications and certification:
Essential:
- Demonstrable Depot Manager and operations experience
- Effective leadership experience at a senior level
- Experience managing multi-site transport activities
- Excellent planning, organisational and decision-making ability
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Powered Access technical knowledge and experience is advantageous
- IOSH / NEBOSH or similar health & safety qualification
