This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced residential childcare professional to join a growing therapeutic service as a Deputy Manager.
Working within small homes supporting up to two young people, you'll play a key role in both the operational leadership of the home and the delivery of high-quality care. This is a varied position that combines hands-on support with management responsibilities, giving you the opportunity to develop the skills and experience needed to progress into a Registered Manager role in the future.
You'll spend approximately half of your time supporting young people and leading the team on shift, with the remainder dedicated to office-based responsibilities such as compliance, care planning, staff development, and supporting the overall management of the home. When the Registered Manager is absent, you'll step up to oversee the service and manage the home on a full-time basis.

The Role
As Deputy Manager, you'll support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day leadership of the home, ensuring high standards of care, safeguarding, compliance, and staff performance are maintained at all times. You'll lead by example, support the development of the staff team, and help create a positive culture where young people can thrive.
This role offers an excellent balance between direct work with young people and management responsibilities, making it ideal for someone looking to bridge the gap between Senior Residential Support Worker and Registered Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager with the overall operation of the home.
- Lead shifts and provide guidance and support to the staff team.
- Ensure high standards of care, safeguarding, and compliance are maintained.
- Support recruitment, induction, supervision, and development of staff.
- Contribute to care planning, risk management, and quality assurance processes.
- Monitor and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Build positive relationships with young people, families, professionals, and external agencies.
- Promote a therapeutic, nurturing, and child-centred culture throughout the home.
- Step into the Registered Manager's responsibilities during periods of absence.
About You
We're looking for an experienced residential childcare professional who is ready to take the next step in their leadership career.
You will need:
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) - Essential.
- Previous experience as a Deputy Manager, Team Leader, Senior Residential Support Worker, or similar leadership position within a children's residential setting.
- Experience supporting children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs.
- Good understanding of Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
- Experience supporting and developing staff teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
- Flexibility to work long day shifts, sleep-ins, weekends, and public holidays as required.
- A full UK driving licence.
