Job Summary:
An Inclusive Future CIC (AIF CIC) have created an innovative and potentially game changing mental health Peer Support project. The project will be delivered across the CMHT Central and West Lancashire areas and will target people aged 18 years and older suffering with poor mental health (either current NHS service users or none service users). Individuals will be paired up with a Mental Health Peer Support Worker. This will be an individual who has had professional, personal or associated experience of mental health problems.
We are looking to recruit Mental Health Peer Support Workers who will connect with individuals with poor mental and support/signpost them to appropriate mental health support and also to engage with mental health services and VCFSE agencies who offer a range of activities and social connectivity. Where appropriate and with service user agreement Mental Health Peer Support Workers will make referrals and accompany service users to appointments/support sessions. Using an expert by experience approach they will also provide emotional support and where appropriate advice/guidance.
This role is a hybrid working role, including home working and working within the community in Central and West Lancashire. An Inclusive Future will provide all working equipment.
Duties:
- Educate and support service users in various aspects of their lives.
- Develop and work through a support plan, in partnership with the service user.
- Offer guidance about self-help strategies and sharing what has worked for themselves and others.
- Identify the needs and challenges and aspirations of individuals with poor mental health and signpost them to appropriate organisations in their community, across Lancashire and where appropriate beyond.
- To build networks with other agencies who can add additional support to our clients in line with their support plan.
- To complete agreed monitoring paperwork and maintain detailed accurate notes.
- To work with An Inclusive Future CIC partner organisations to ensure the best use of time and resources.
- To work in accordance with all of An Inclusive Future CIC policies and procedures ensuring any safeguarding disclosures are dealt with appropriately and in accordance with An Inclusive Future CIC policies.
- Create a safe and supportive environment for service users.
- Collaborate with other professionals to ensure wrap around care.
Experience:
- Some form of lived experience within mental health, this can be personal or work experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexible, adaptable and a good listener.
- Ability to empathise and connect with individuals in challenging situations.
- A compassionate and patient approach is key.
- Ability to work well independently and as a team.
- Ability to manage your own diary.
- Accurate record keeping.
