Our paediatric diabetes service is growing from strength to strength, driven by a supportive and ambitious multidisciplinary team committed to transforming the way we deliver care. As a Senior Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse, you will play a key role within our dedicated MDT, bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm to support continued service development and high-quality patient care.
We are seeking a nurse with a genuine passion for diabetes care and improving outcomes for children and young people. In return, we offer a comprehensive development pathway, including support to undertake specialist training that will further enhance your skills and professional growth.
You will receive ongoing support and mentorship within a welcoming cross-site nursing team, led by an experienced Matron. Although primarily based at Frimley Park Hospital, you will be part of a wider collaborative service, providing excellent opportunities to learn, develop, and broaden your experience.

To review all children and young people admitted to hospital with a diagnosis of diabetes, with the aim to support early discharge so that they can be managed in their own home and reduce the likelihood of readmissions.
To undertake comprehensive healthcare needs of CYPs with diabetes, changing treatment plan as necessary, including assessment of CYPs when an inpatient and post discharge through clinic and/or virtual visits.
To be skilled in the assessment and basic management of CYP with diabetes, developing autonomous clinical decision making.
To provide appropriate information, education, advice and support particularly to the CYP, parents, ward staff and schools.
To provide the nursing and support for children and families who have diabetes experiencing complications such as high HbA1c management i.e. Pump starts.
Working in a demanding environment, the successful applicant will be required to:
Lead on a designated clinic and independently manage a case load of CYPs.
Use excellent communication skills.
Have a sound knowledge of paediatric diabetes; aetiology and treatment.
Have the ability to work both autonomously and as a member of the nursing team/MDT.
Demonstrate self-direction and a willingness to develop their skills.
Have excellent organisational, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
Have the ability to support and teach staff, families and other professionals such as schools.
