Ganger – Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Ganger to lead on‑site teams and support the successful delivery of water and construction‑related projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. This role is hands‑on and requires someone who can organise daily tasks, oversee operatives, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
Key Duties
- Lead and supervise on-site operatives to ensure all tasks are completed safely, correctly, and within expected timeframes.
- Coordinate work areas, materials, and plant to keep site activities running smoothly.
- Support the Site Manager by reporting daily progress, identifying issues, and communicating resource needs.
- Ensure all operatives follow RAMS, safety procedures, and approved method statements.
- Assist with site set-up, setting out, marking areas, and preparing work fronts.
- Conduct checks on completed works to maintain high-quality output.
- Record daily progress, quantities, and any issues for reporting purposes.
- Manage tools, equipment, and small plant to ensure availability and proper use.
- Ensure safe excavation practices and compliance with water industry standards.
- Support testing, commissioning, and inspection activities on-site.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of site safety requirements and safe site set‑ups around the public and team members.
- Excellent attitude towards safety, quality, and customer service.
- Good knowledge and experience of mains laying, including slip‑lining, pipe bursting, and other rehabilitation techniques.
- Reliable timekeeping and strong housekeeping standards, ensuring tidy and safe work areas.
- A “right‑first‑time” focus with proven ability to deliver work to a high standard.
Experience & Qualifications
- NRSWA (Street Works) Qualification
- Full UK driving licence
- SHEA Water
- Water Hygiene
- Temporary Works Supervisor qualification
- SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme)
- Butt Fusion Welding experience/certification
- CAT & Genny Training
- First Aid Training
- HSG47 – Avoiding Danger from Underground Services / Safe Dig Competence
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £18.00-£23.50 per hour
