Zen are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and recognised by Ofsted as an 'Outstanding' primary school based in B18, Birmingham. This full-time role involves supporting children with a range of additional needs, including autism (ASD) and helping them to achieve their full potential in a nurturing learning environment.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with pupils who require additional support. You will play a key role in adapting learning activities, promoting independence and providing tailored one-to-one and small group support.
The school’s intention for SEND provision is to ensure that every child receives a high-quality and ambitious education, regardless of their learning needs or disabilities. This particular school also places great importance on collaboration with parents, carers and external agencies.
The ideal candidate will:
- Must have a background in Education, Care, Psychology, or Drama, as these provide excellent transferable skills for this role.
- Ideally hold a Level 3 Qualification in Teaching & Learning.
- Have experience or training in alternative communication methods such as Makaton or PECS – or be eager and willing to learn.
- Have experience of, or a strong interest in, working with pupils with a range of additional needs.
- Be adaptable, proactive and patient, with a calm and positive approach to challenges.
- Demonstrate a caring and nurturing attitude, creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, pupils and parents as part of a collaborative team.
- Be open to assisting with personal care when required, ensuring the highest standards of respect and dignity.
