Royal Mail is looking for a highly commercial and strategic Account Director to strengthen relationships with some of our most important customers. This is a high-profile role focused on retaining and growing significant revenue streams, identifying new commercial opportunities, and ensuring Royal Mail remains a trusted partner to major businesses.
With responsibility for a portfolio worth around £100m in revenue, you'll play a critical role in shaping customer strategy, influencing senior stakeholders, and delivering long-term growth.
About the Role
As an Account Director, you will lead the strategic development of a portfolio of major customers, creating and delivering account plans that drive revenue growth, increase share of spend and enhance customer satisfaction.
Working across Royal Mail and with external partners, you'll act as the voice of the customer, ensuring opportunities are identified, challenges are addressed and innovative solutions are deployed. You'll bring together virtual teams from across the business to deliver exceptional customer outcomes and achieve ambitious commercial targets.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute strategic account plans that drive revenue growth, customer retention and increased share of spend.

Build and maintain strong relationships with senior customer stakeholders, including executive and board-level decision-makers.

Identify, develop and secure new commercial opportunities, including breakthrough deals and strategic initiatives.

Lead virtual teams across Royal Mail to deliver customer objectives and ensure a seamless customer experience.

Mitigate competitive threats and position Royal Mail solutions effectively within customer organisations.

Deliver accurate forecasting, reporting and performance management across your account portfolio.
About You
You are a commercially astute sales professional with a proven track record of developing strategic customer relationships and delivering significant revenue growth. You thrive in complex stakeholder environments, enjoy influencing at senior levels and are motivated by achieving ambitious commercial goals.
You combine strategic thinking with strong execution skills and are confident leading initiatives that create value for both customers and the business.
What You'll Bring

Significant experience in sales, account management or business development within a commercial environment.

Proven track record of achieving and exceeding revenue targets.

Strong strategic planning and account development capability.

Excellent negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to build relationships with senior executives and board-level decision-makers.

Strong commercial awareness and understanding of customer needs, market trends and growth opportunities.

Excellent communication, presentation and business case development skills.

Knowledge of the mail, parcels or logistics sector would be advantageous.
Role Impact
This role is accountable for a portfolio of major customers generating approximately £100m in revenue. You'll be responsible for developing long-term growth plans, protecting existing revenue streams and helping shape Royal Mail's strategic relationships with some of its most important customers.
