Vincent Reed Ltd is a leading heritage woodwork restoration and conservation specialist with over 35 years’ experience working on some of the UK’s most significant historic buildings. Our practice is built on exacting craft standards, deep respect for original materials, and a commitment to passing traditional skills forward to the next generation of specialists.
The opportunity
We are looking for talented, self-employed woodworkers based in London who are available to join our teams on a subcontract basis. Work spans a wide range of heritage and conservation projects across the capital and beyond — from listed private residences to some of Britain’s most celebrated public buildings.
This is an opportunity to work alongside some of the most skilled heritage craftspeople in the country, on projects of genuine national significance. We are keen to hear from woodworkers at varying stages of their careers, provided they bring a high standard of craft and a genuine enthusiasm for working with historic materials.
Typical work may include
- Conservation and restoration of period joinery, panelling, and architectural woodwork
- Heritage flooring — repair, restoration, and installation of period timber floors
- Bespoke repair and replication of decorative woodwork elements
- On-site installation work within listed and protected historic buildings
- Working sensitively with original fabric, matching materials and profiles to period standards
Skills & experience
■ Minimum 5 years’ experience as a practising woodworker — backgrounds in heritage joinery, furniture restoration, cabinet making, fine joinery, or related disciplines are all welcomed
■ A high standard of hand-tool skill and attention to detail in finished work
■ Comfortable working on site within sensitive historic environments
■ Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a wider team
■ Own tools and valid public liability insurance
■ Based in London or able to access London sites without difficulty
Desirable
■ Experience working within listed buildings, or other protected historic structures
■ Familiarity with traditional finishes, adhesives, and period-appropriate materials
■ Current CSCS card

■ A passion for historic buildings and the long-term preservation of Britain’s built heritage
