Axcis are working with a well-established secondary academy in Havering who are seeking a committed and proactive Learning Support Assistant to join their inclusion team immediately. This is a full-time, long-term position supporting students across KS3 and KS4 who require additional help to access learning, build confidence and remain engaged in school life.
The academy has a strong identity around creativity, structure and high expectations, with a broad curriculum and a focus on helping students develop both academically and personally. The school is based in the Hornchurch area and supports pupils aged 11–16. It is easily accessible by local transport routes, with parking available for staff where possible.
This role would suit someone who enjoys working with young people in a busy secondary environment and can bring patience, initiative and consistency to the classroom.
About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who may need support with learning, organisation, confidence, communication or emotional regulation. You will support pupils in mainstream lessons, small groups and occasionally through targeted interventions.
You will:
- Support students across KS3 and KS4 within mainstream classroom lessons
- Help pupils break down tasks, stay focused and understand instructions
- Support students with SEND, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs or learning difficulties
- Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and pastoral team
- Encourage independence, resilience and positive learning habits
- Help maintain a calm, focused and inclusive learning environment
- Support pupils during transitions and throughout the school day where required
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience working with young people in a school, SEND, mentoring, youth work or support setting
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND, autism, ADHD or SEMH would be highly desirable
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to use initiative and adapt support based on pupil needs
- Confidence working in a busy secondary school environment
- Full-time availability and commitment to a long-term role
