Job Overview
We are seeking a friendly and motivated Coffee Shop Assistant and Trainee Barista to join our vibrant team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop barista skills while providing exceptional service to our customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting daily operations, preparing beverages, and ensuring a welcoming environment. Previous experience is desired, however full training will be provided, making this an ideal position for individuals eager to learn and grow within the hospitality industry.
Duties
- Greet customers warmly and take their orders accurately
- Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, tea, and specialised drinks
- Assist with food preparation and presentation in line with health and safety standards
- Maintain cleanliness of the shop area, including tables, counters, and equipment
- Ensure food safety protocols are followed at all times
- Handle cash transactions accurately and operate the till system
- Restock supplies as needed to ensure smooth daily operations
- Support team members during busy periods to deliver excellent customer service
- Follow health and safety guidelines diligently, including food safety procedures
Skills
- Knowledge of food safety standards
- Previous barista experience is a plus but not essential; full training will be provided for trainees
- Experience in serving customers in a fast paced environment
- Basic food preparation skills with attention to detail
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively during busy periods
- Basic maths skills for handling cash transactions accurately
- Strong time management skills to prioritise tasks efficiently
- Friendly demeanour with excellent communication skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team and independently when required

PLEASE NOTE: Whilst we will make every effort to accommodate individual requests for working hours the shift pattern will be set by the demands of the coffee shop opening hours. The Coffee Shop is currently open Monday to Friday 9am until 3pm and on a Saturday morning for sports events.
