The Residents Team manage part of this dynamic, expansive creative network. Supporting our community to settle into and thrive in our workspaces we are actively manage relationships with our residents and deliver a community support programme designed to foster their professional growth.
The Digital Communications & Engagement Manager will lead the communications and digital strategy for Somerset House’s community of creative businesses. You’ll drive stronger engagement and knowledge-sharing across the resident network, while partnering with our Marketing team to elevate external visibility and position Somerset House as a leading creative workplace.
A core part of this role is driving and embedding our internal communications framework—central to a wider programme transforming our community platform. You’ll help strengthen member relationships, streamline communication, and ensure their needs are met. You’ll create and deliver a content plan aligned with organisational strategy. This will span a mix of formats—from operational guides and newsletters to blogs and editorial—shared internally and via collaboration with our Marketing Team across our website and social channels to showcase and promote our creative workspaces.
Communications & Engagement
Residents Engagement & Platform Management
- Lead on developing and implementing the resident’s communication and engagement framework, in line with wider organisational strategies
- Oversee ‘Somerset House Online’, our online community platform, leading on digital community management and platform content, such as handbooks, blog posts and digital storytelling
- Support residents to connect, collaborate and share opportunities digitally (discussion boards, directories, peer exchange)
- Drive digital engagement with Somerset House’s resident community (3,000+ individuals and 600+ organisations)
- Delivery of engaging content and campaigns to increase participation in the resident community programme (networking events and business support) and the broader Somerset House offer
- Oversee strategic planning and coordination of our suite of regular community newsletters, including producing the weekly Residents’ Newsletter
Digital Strategy
- Develop a digital strategy, liaising with our Marketing & Digital Teams, to publicly promote creative workspace opportunities, highlight the resident community within the Somerset House narrative, building brand awareness as the Home of Cultural Innovators and attracting new members
- Work closely with teams to implement an aligned tone of voice for communications across all formats, external assets and promotional materials
- Plan and deliver integrated campaigns promoting public events within the residents' community programme
- Write and commission compelling content (web copy, social posts, storytelling) tailored to different resident and external audiences
Insight, Evaluation and Reporting
- Establish, monitor and analyse digital engagement and communication metrics, to assess effectiveness and make data-driven decisions
- Work with Senior Community Manager to gather insights from residents (surveys, focus groups, feedback loops) to inform strategy and continuous improvement
Operational Communications
- As required, draft and publish internal communications to our onsite resident community (e.g. operational and emergency updates), liaising with the relevant Trust departments and key contractors for information
- Support all general operational and logistical changes and processes through communications with the Residents team, Estates team and contractors
- As required, identify any activity that will impact residents and work with other departments to minimise disruption
Relationship Management
- Build relationships with residents, considering how each organisation can best contribute to Somerset House’s creative purpose in a way that is mutually beneficial, alongside other Community Managers and members of the Residents Team
- Act as an ambassador for the Trust, as well as an advocate of the community and its aims
Experience:
- Experience with digital platforms, apps or CRM systems (e.g. Nexudus, community platforms, CMS)
- Successful experience creating and developing content, ensuring it is both informative and engaging
- Demonstrable success at leading on internal communications for a community or membership group
- Experience building and managing relationships with clients, meeting customer needs and managing difficult conversations when needed
- Successful delivery of a communications project in line with schedules and budget
- Developing various content formats, such as blog posts, newsletters and videos, to promote a community or workspace.
- Crafting engaging copy and thought‑leadership content
Skills:
- Excellent written communication skills - with awareness of required tone and attention to detail
- Problem solving skills, with ability to identify and address issues before they arise
- Self-motivated, with ability to meet deadlines and take personal ownership to achieve team goals
- Good PR skills, the ability to find a good angle and storytelling capabilities
- Ability to understand and communicate operational processes within a workspace environment (desirable)
