About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Barista to join our busy speciality coffee café. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in delivering exceptional coffee, outstanding customer service, and maintaining high standards in a fast-paced café environment.
The successful candidate will have previous experience working in a speciality coffee setting and be confident in all aspects of coffee preparation, food service, and day-to-day café operations.
This role would suit someone who is proactive, organised, and genuinely passionate about speciality coffee.
Key Responsibilities
Coffee Preparation & Service
- Prepare and serve high-quality espresso-based drinks to a consistent standard.
- Dial in coffee throughout the day to maintain quality and consistency.
- Create latte art to a professional standard.
- Follow coffee recipes and extraction guidelines accurately.
- Prepare a variety of beverages including:
- Espresso-based coffees
- Matcha lattes
- Smoothies
- Fresh juices
- Seasonal drinks and café specials
- Maintain excellent presentation standards for all beverages served.
Food Preparation
- Prepare sandwiches, wraps, and light food items.
- Slice and portion cakes and baked goods.
- Ensure food is prepared and displayed to company standards.
- Monitor food quality and freshness throughout the day.
Customer Service
- Deliver a friendly and welcoming customer experience.
- Take customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Provide product recommendations and answer customer queries.
- Handle customer feedback professionally.
Stock & Café Operations
- Monitor stock levels and assist with stock ordering.
- Receive and organise deliveries.
- Maintain clean, organised, and fully stocked workstations.
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the café.
Hygiene & Compliance
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of coffee equipment and preparation areas.
- Ensure compliance with HACCP and food handling regulations.
- Carry out daily cleaning tasks and equipment maintenance.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A minimum of 2 years' experience as a Barista within a speciality coffee café.
- Strong knowledge of coffee extraction and dialling in.
- Ability to create latte art confidently and consistently.
- Good understanding of coffee recipes and brewing standards.
- Experience preparing matcha drinks, smoothies, and juices.
- Food preparation experience, including sandwich preparation and cake service.
- Excellent hygiene and food safety standards.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
