We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and highly organised Childcare Manager to lead the daily operations of a very small childcare setting, ensuring the highest standards of care, education, safeguarding, and compliance.
The Childcare Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the nursery/childcare environment, creating a safe, nurturing, stimulating, and inclusive setting for children aged [insert age range], while leading and supporting staff teams to deliver exceptional early years education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and Ofsted requirements.
This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, business awareness, and a genuine commitment to providing outstanding childcare experiences for children and families.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management
- Lead, motivate, and manage the childcare team to maintain a positive, professional, and collaborative working environment.
- Recruit, induct, supervise, and appraise staff members.
- Conduct regular supervisions, staff meetings, and performance reviews.
- Support staff development through training, mentoring, and continuous professional development opportunities.
- Ensure staff ratios are consistently maintained according to statutory requirements.
- Foster a culture of excellence, inclusion, and safeguarding.
Childcare & Education
- Ensure high-quality care and learning experiences for all children.
- Oversee curriculum planning in line with EYFS principles.
- Monitor children’s development, progress tracking, and learning journeys.
- Promote inclusive practice to support children with additional needs.
- Ensure children’s emotional wellbeing, physical safety, and developmental needs are met.
- Maintain an engaging, age-appropriate, and stimulating learning environment.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or support safeguarding leadership.
- Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are implemented effectively.
- Maintain full compliance with:
- Ofsted regulations
- EYFS statutory framework
- Health & Safety legislation
- Food hygiene standards
- Safer recruitment procedures
- Equality and diversity policies
- Prepare for Ofsted inspections and maintain required records/documentation.
- Monitor accidents, incidents, risk assessments, and child protection concerns.
Parent & Family Partnerships
- Build strong, professional relationships with parents and carers.
- Manage enquiries, admissions, and occupancy.
- Communicate effectively regarding children’s development and wellbeing.
- Handle concerns, complaints, or sensitive situations professionally.
- Promote family engagement through events, meetings, and ongoing communication.
Business & Operational Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the setting.
- Manage budgets, occupancy levels, staffing costs, and resources effectively.
- Support marketing, enrolment growth, and reputation management.
- Ensure accurate invoicing, funding claims, and record-keeping.
- Monitor policies and procedures regularly.
- Maintain cleanliness, health, and safety standards across the setting.
