Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Traffic Planner to join our operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring vehicle movements across a diverse fleet to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective transport operations while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule daily transport operations across a mixed fleet of Luton vans, 7.5-tonne, 18-tonne, 26-tonne rigid vehicles, and articulated (Artic) lorries.
- Allocate vehicles and drivers effectively to meet customer requirements and operational targets.
- Optimise routes to maximise vehicle utilisation, reduce empty running, and improve operational efficiency.
- Monitor vehicle movements throughout the day and proactively manage delays, breakdowns, and last-minute changes.
- Liaise with drivers, customers, warehouse teams, and subcontractors to ensure smooth delivery and collection schedules.
- Ensure all transport activities comply with relevant legislation, including driver hours, Working Time Directive requirements, and vehicle compliance standards.
- Maintain accurate records using transport management systems and other operational software.
- Provide timely updates to customers regarding delivery schedules and service issues.
- Support the continuous improvement of transport planning processes and fleet performance.
- Produce operational reports and assist with general transport administration as required.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a transport planning, traffic planning, logistics, or scheduling role is desirable.
- Experience working with a varied fleet, including Luton vans, 7.5t, 18t, 26t, and articulated vehicles, would be advantageous.
- Strong geographical knowledge and route-planning skills.
- Good understanding of transport legislation and driver compliance requirements.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and transport management systems.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Oncall - Week on & week off
