Highway Engineer | 10785 | Permanent Contract | 37 hours per week | £43,822 to £48,227 per annum (Scale K) | Norfolk
We are looking for a Highway Engineer to join the Highways team here at Norfolk County Council and take responsibility for the management of a sector of the Norfolk Highways infrastructure, primarily for the Norwich City area. Reporting to the Area Manager, you'll be responsible for all aspects of the maintenance and continual improvement of your allocated sector. This will include the line management of a team of engineers and technicians in order to deliver the service targets.
As the Highway Engineer you'll be involved in the inspection, identification, planning and budget control of highway maintenance, and you'll also be responsible for the public liaison function for the same area. It's a broad, varied role, where you'll need to undertake responses in person, and attend site meetings as necessary. The successful applicant for this role can expect to help shape and build the future of Norfolk County Council's public highway network in order to continue to deliver the best service possible.
You'll provide first line response to traffic management and policy requests, initiate scheme briefs for maintenance schemes, represent the Area Manager as required, as well as providing support for a variety of tasks and projects including assisting deliver the winter service. To be considered for the role, you'll need a good understanding of highway maintenance and engineering principles, and proven experience putting them into practice. You'll also need experience managing a team as well as managing contractors, and be able to demonstrate experience of project management. In addition, strong communication skills, experience dealing directly with the public, and a positive and proactive approach are also required.
