Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and diligent School Caretaker to join our educational establishment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and security of the school premises. This role is vital in ensuring a welcoming and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal applicant will possess strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Previous experience in facilities management or caretaking is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections of the school premises to identify maintenance or safety issues
- Carry out general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and waste disposal
- Ensure all areas are secure by locking doors and windows and activating security systems when necessary
- Perform minor repairs or organise repairs with external contractors as required
- Maintain outdoor areas, including groundskeeping tasks such as lawn mowing and snow clearance during winter months
- Monitor heating, lighting, and ventilation systems to ensure optimal operation
- Manage stock levels of cleaning supplies and equipment, reordering when necessary
- Respond promptly to urgent maintenance requests or emergencies within the school environment
- Assist with setting up classrooms and event spaces for school functions or activities
Requirements
- Previous experience in caretaking, facilities management, or a similar role is desirable but not essential
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Good communication skills and a professional attitude towards colleagues and visitors
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision whilst following health & safety procedures
- Physical fitness to perform manual tasks such as lifting, bending, and outdoor groundskeeping duties
- Basic knowledge of health & safety regulations relevant to educational premises
- A proactive approach with problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Flexibility to respond to urgent issues outside of regular working hours if necessary
