The Children's Rheumatology MDT focuses on a holistic approach to care of getting children and young people back to what they want to do from a physical and functional standpoint, and optimising general health, emotional wellbeing and educational, social and employment outcomes. We are a supporting and caring team of 5 Children's Rheumatology Nurses, 4 Children's Rheumatology Consultants, Rotational Registrars, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, a Youth Worker and Psychologist. This post will manage 4 band 6 CNS's.
Clinical activity is predominantly outpatient based, with MDT care supporting children and young people to engage with treatment programmes as needed whilst remaining actively involved with the usual activities of childhood. Ongoing disease education and treatment modality education is a large part of the CNS's job role. There is a strong collaboration between local, region and tertiary services. Paediatric Rheumatology CNS's work closely with the regional Children's Community Nursing Teams who often assist with the administration of sub-cutaneous immunosuppressive drugs in the patient's home. Children and young people with inflammatory rheumatological conditions are cared for throughout the paediatric disease course, from diagnosis to discharge or transfer of care to adult rheumatology.
Our team vision is to be recognised as the best Paediatric Rheumatology Service in the UK through:
- Providing outstanding patient-centred care
- Having open and collaborative communication
- Innovation
- Optimising resources
