The Bath Soft Cheese Co is an award-winning artisan cheesemakers with over 100 years of farming heritage. At our dairy outside Bath in Somerset, we make cheeses by hand using milk from our own herd. Our cheeses have won multiple awards in recent years including World Cheese Champion (Bath Blue) and International Supreme Champion (Wyfe of Bath).
The iconic Borough Market is home to our flagship cheese stall and ‘The Bath Dairy’ ; our first hot food stall, which opened in 2019.
We're looking for a dedicated supervisor to drive sales and oversee the day to day running of our cheese, ice cream and milkshake stall at Borough Market. In addition to the stall the successful candidate will also be required to oversee and organise our weekend farmers markets including staffing, equipment and stock.
Essential Criteria:
- Must have a minimum of 1 years supervisory or managerial experience.
- Must be reasonably physically fit and able - we are a small market based business and lifting and carrying are a daily feature at the market.
- Must have at least 2 years customer service experience.
- Must like cheese and be comfortable tasting and talking about cheese.
- Must possess a current manual UK driving licence and be prepared to do some driving in a small transit style van (around 20% of the role / roughly 4 days per month) as part of the position. No commercial driving experience is required however we do ask that you are a confident driver with an awareness of London charging zones and the sometimes challenging driving conditions in the city. Full training on the driving aspect of the role can be provided.
Desirable Criteria:
- Food Safety Level 2 Certificate (this can be provided).
- Ideally over 25 for vehicle insurance purposes however if you are 21-25 with a strong CV please submit an application. Unfortunately we cannot insure anyone under 21.
- Deli or Cheese Counter experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the day-to-day running of the cheese shop in Borough Market including stock control, customer service and supervising a small team.
- Organising weekly farmers markets including stock and equipment preparation and allocating and arranging staffing for 10 locations each weekend.
- Maintaining and updating food safety, health and safety and equipment maintenance records.
- Driving for farmers markets around 4 days (2 weekends) per working month
- Manual Handling - receiving deliveries etc
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Working in other parts of the business as required to cover holidays and absence
- Communicating effectively across the business and developing and maintaining good relations with Borough Market management.
- Developing new ideas and driving sales.
