Job Overview
We are seeking a Head Greenkeeper who will be responsible for the management, maintenance, and presentation of our exceptional nine hole parkland golf course. Working closely with the Greens Chairman and Greens Committee, the post holder ensures the course is consistently presented to a high standard that meets member expectations, supports competitions, and enhances the club’s reputation.
Key Responsibilities:
Golf Course Maintenance & Presentation
- Maintain greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, rough, and practice areas to a high standard suitable for year-round play
- Deliver consistent putting surfaces
- Plan seasonal agronomic programmes (aeration, fertilisation, topdressing, over seeding) and appoint and oversee contractors, as required
- Prepare the course for competitions, match days, and events
- Manage bunker quality, hazard definition, and general course aesthetics
Member & Golf Experience
- Ensure course conditions meet member expectations and enhance playing experience
- Communicate regularly with members regarding course works, closures, and conditions
- Balance presentation with playability in varying weather conditions
- Respond professionally to member feedback and course-related queries
Team Leadership & Development
- Allocate daily and weekly work schedules based on priorities
- Manage, train and develop the apprentice greenkeeper
Machinery & Workshop Oversight
- Manage the maintenance, servicing, and replacement planning of all course machinery
- Ensure machinery is used safely and efficiently
- Liaise with external suppliers and service providers where necessary
Budget & Financial Responsibility
- Assist with the preparation and management of the annual greens budget
- Control costs relating to fertilisers, chemicals, fuel, and labour
- Source products and services competitively while maintaining quality
Compliance, Health & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety legislation and club policies
- Maintain COSHH records and safe chemical handling procedures
- Ensure safe working practices for all staff
Course Development & Projects
- Work with the Greens Chairman and Greens Committee on long-term course development plans
Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
- Proven experience in golf course management
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Sports Turf Management (or similar)
- Strong understanding of fine turf management, particularly greens
- Leadership and team management experience
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable
- PA1, PA2, PA6 spraying qualifications
- Chainsaw competence certification
- First Aid certification

Working Conditions
- Outdoor working in all weather conditions
- Early starts and flexible hours, including Saturday mornings
- Additional hours worked will be accrued and taken in lieu of overtime payment
Reporting To
- Greens Chairman
- Works closely with the Greens Committee
Pay:
· £30,000 - £35,000.00 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications
Annual Leave
· 30 days per annum, inclusive of 8 statutory bank holidays
Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
