Job Title: Research Nurse / Clinical Research Practitioner (CRP)
Contract Duration: 8 months fixed term, with potential to extend
Hours: 0.6 FTE Salary: up to £20.50 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)
Job Summary
The post holder will work to increase Primary Care capacity and engagement in the number and complexity of research trials. Through a joint partnership approach, the successful candidate will work alongside the Research Team at Great Western Hospital to learn through doing under the guidance of experienced colleagues. The role focuses on delivering high-quality research, establishing future ways of working, and sharing knowledge between secondary and primary care.
Key Responsibilities
- Focus on the quality delivery of 2 to 3 academic and/or commercial [DS1] research projects for the duration of the 8-month contract, including supporting with PIC activity.
- Participate in shadowing, training, and mentoring at Great Western Hospital for one day per week and feeding back learning to primary care colleagues within Brunel Health Group.
- Produce quarterly reports on learning achieved and shared with BHG and GWH.
- Develop competencies against the CRN WoE Framework, demonstrating progress on a quarterly basis.
- Provide extra capacity for commercial trials at the hospital to help generate income for GWHFT.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that can be applied to future research opportunities within Brunel Health Group.
- Actively liaise with the Central PI and Research Coordinator to provide research support within Brunel Health Group, taking direction and initiative as required.
- Ensure exposure to new and different studies within GWHFT to enable the sharing of knowledge with primary care colleagues.
- Actively seek out opportunities for research within Primary Care, improving access to research for member practices.
- Build research confidence in member practices by providing direct exposure to studies under the guidance of the research team.
- Endeavour to liaise with the wider healthcare system when appropriate.
- Optimise opportunities to ensure equitable access to studies for diverse patient cohorts in Swindon and Shrivenham, working in close collaboration with the wider research team.
- Ensure all research activity complies with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research governance, and Information Governance standards.
- Collect and manage study data accurately and securely.
- Provide clinical care for research participants within the boundaries of own knowledge, competence, and skill level.
Professional Requirements & Skills
- Registered Nurse (NMC) or experienced Clinical Research Practitioner.
- Experience of using primary care clinical systems, including System One.
- Willingness to undertake GCP training and relevant research training.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and maintain a caring environment through the support of colleagues.
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities to ensure tasks are completed within the 8-month timeframe.
- Demonstrate knowledge and application of principles of Health and Safety in the workplace.
- Ability to support the equality, diversity, and rights of patients, carers, and colleagues.
- Awareness of ICH Good Clinical Practice and the general clinical trial process.
- Competence in undertaking general administrative tasks related to clinical trials.
