Post Title: Deputy Manager
Responsible to: Registered Manager
Liason WIth: Management, and all residential emplyee's/staff
Overall Responsibilities:
1. Primary:
- To play a role in the establishment, maintenance, and development of the environment and climate of the home, thus providing children with a calm and relaxed group living experience conducive to emotional security and personal happiness and growth.
- To be actively involved in planning and participating in the homes recreational and social programme and engage individuals and groups in constructive, enterprising, and socially extending range of leisure pursuits.
- In the absence of the Registered Manager; to be responsible for all admin / childcare functions at the home and to operate as the home’s leader in these periods of absence.
- To make decisions in accordance with company, the Registered Manager’s, and Ofsted’s expectations for the home.
- To become fully conversant with the company’s philosophy and policies.
- To respect and maintain the confidential nature of the work.
- To ensure that the home is operating within Ofsted registration guidelines.
- To ensure that the home is operating in accordance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015
- To assist the Registered Manager to promote good childcare practice within the home.
2. Children’s Care:
- Day to day supervision and guidance of staff regarding standards of care in line with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 (CHR2015) and the wider implications of company guidelines, procedures, instructions, and Policies e.g., health care, children’s rights, childcare law etc.
- To play a significant role in supervision of key workers encouraging them to be responsible for and accountable to senior staff in ensuring effective assessment monitoring, planning, and evaluating for each child takes place.
- To ensure that positive behaviour support practices are effective; this includes supporting staff to manage children’s behaviours effectively.
- To ensure that full and complete casework records for children are maintained and that sound decisions are made and carried out.
- To assist the Registered Manager in ensuring specific plans are carried out.
- To demonstrate good childcare practices in own direct work with children to provide a model for other staff members.
- To perform the role of a shift leader whilst working directly with children ‘on shift’ and to be a role model to other staff and children.

3. Staff Team:
- To be responsible for, and to contribute to your own professional development.
- To attend and participate in staff meetings, supervisions, and appraisals as appropriate.
- To participate in appropriate In-Service Training.
- To provide effective and developmental supervision to assigned staff team members.
- To assist in the recruitment processes of new potential new staff members.
- To assist in providing effective induction for staff members.
4. Assessment, Recording and Reporting:
- To compile written reports as and when necessary.
- To actively seek the views and opinions of children and provide a platform from which they can be heard.
- To help other staff to compile reports and encourage them to involve the children in reviews.
- To attend and participate in case conferences / reviews / planning meetings as / when appropriate.
- To assist the Registered Manager in ensuring specific administrative tasks are performed accurately.
5. Resources:
- To make effective and efficient use of the resources available within the home and to be aware of resources provided by the company and those within the community.
- To maintain the orderliness of the children’s living areas and social areas and clean such areas in emergencies.
6. Leadership and management:
- To carry out specific tasks as delegated by the Registered Manager.
- To monitor and assist other staff members in carrying out their administrative duties.
- To be responsible for all administrative functions / operations in the absence of Registered Manager.
- To assist the Registered Manager in the management of the staff team in a manner which maximises their output and enables them to achieve their potential.
- To contribute to the development of the company’s childcare practices.
- To facilitate effective Regulation 44 visits.
- To contribute towards the home’s quality assurance processes, inclusive of Regulation 45 reporting and regular monitoring / auditing.
7. Organisation and Administration:
- To assist the Registered Manager in disseminating information and providing instructions / guidance regarding outcomes of these meetings to the staff team.
- To be involved in the planning and provision to the service as a whole and to make contributions to working groups when requested.
- To effectively share information with the entire staff team thorough mediums such as team meetings, supervisions, handovers etc.
8. General Duties:
- To perform any other reasonable task that the Registered Manager and his / her Deputy may ask from time to time.
- To act as driver and / or escort transporting children to and from school, on shopping trips, appointments, and activities.
- To perform sleeping-in duties as required.
- To effectively manage and monitor the homes budgets and financial systems.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to safeguarding children and young people and promoting the welfare of children in accordance with the agreed Child Protection Policy for the setting. Any issues or concerns are reported to their Designated Safeguarding Lead or any Deputy Safeguarding Lead. In the Children’s homes, where the Designated Safeguarding Lead or the deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead is not available, and then it would be reported to the senior on duty.

This job description will be reviewed at least once per year and may be subject to amendment or modification at any time after consultation with the post holder.
