Location: Hope Primary School, Liverpool (plus other schools across Liverpool & Knowsley)
Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday
Contract Type: Full-Time Apprenticeship
Start Date: September 2026
Additional paid overtime available on a weekly basis.
About the Role:
Happy Hedgehog Sports are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and energetic Sports Apprentice to join our growing team.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in education, coaching or school sport whilst gaining a nationally recognised qualification and valuable hands-on experience within primary schools.
Based primarily at Hope Primary School, you will also have opportunities to work across a number of schools throughout Liverpool and Knowsley, supporting Physical Education, school sport, interventions and extracurricular activities.
Working alongside experienced coaches, teachers and school staff, you will develop coaching, leadership and communication skills while making a positive impact on the lives of young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of high-quality PE lessons.
- Assist with school sport and physical activity programmes.
- Lead and support lunchtime and after-school activities.
- Support interventions and targeted pupil groups.
- Help organise and deliver school competitions and sporting events.
- Act as a positive role model for pupils.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
- Uphold safeguarding and health & safety standards at all times.
Apprenticeship Programme:
Successful applicants will complete a nationally recognised apprenticeship programme through our training partner, Ignite Sport UK.
Potential pathways include:
- Level 2 Community Activator Coach
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant
- Level 4 Sports Coach
You will receive dedicated mentoring, ongoing training and professional development throughout your apprenticeship.
Requirements:
- Passion for sport, physical activity and working with children.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Reliable, punctual and professional approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- GCSE English and Maths preferred.
- Previous coaching, volunteering or leadership experience is essential.
- A valid DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- First Aid and Safeguarding certificates (or willingness to complete training).
