Job Summary
Pumpkin Lane Day Nursery is looking for a caring, confident and experienced Room Leader to join our friendly team on a maternity cover basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic early years professional who is passionate about providing high-quality care and education. The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day running of the room, support the nursery team and help create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can learn, grow and thrive.
This is a maternity cover position with the potential to become a permanent long-term role, subject to business needs, successful completion of the probationary period and performance.
Responsibilities
As a Room Leader, your duties will include:
- Leading the day-to-day running of the room and ensuring high standards of care and education
- Supporting, guiding and motivating practitioners within the room
- Providing high-quality learning opportunities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage
- Planning and delivering engaging activities based on children’s individual needs, interests and stages of development
- Observing, assessing and recording children’s progress
- Supporting key persons with learning journals, observations and next steps
- Creating a safe, welcoming, inclusive and stimulating environment
- Building strong relationships with children, parents, carers and colleagues
- Supporting children with daily routines, including meals, toileting, sleep and personal care
- Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety and nursery policies are followed at all times
- Working closely with management to support the smooth running of the nursery
- Helping to maintain a clean, organised and well-resourced room
- Acting as a positive role model for children and staff
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- A recognised Level 3 Early Years qualification, or equivalent
- Previous experience working in an early years setting
- Experience leading a room or supporting a team, preferred
- A good understanding of the EYFS
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- A caring, patient and positive approach
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confidence in working in partnership with parents and carers
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Reliability, enthusiasm and a proactive attitude
Desirable
- Previous Room Leader or Third in Charge experience
- Paediatric First Aid qualification
- Experience using online learning journals
- Knowledge of observation, assessment and planning processes
