Precision Rolling Mill Setter / Operator
Training Provided | Redditch | Full-time, Permanent
We’re recruiting for a Precision Rolling Mill Setter / Operator to join a specialist manufacturing business based in Redditch.
This is a hands-on, high-accuracy role working with tight-tolerance metal products. It would suit someone who is mechanically minded, patient, reliable and enjoys getting things right.
You do not need previous rolling mill experience. This is a niche industry, and full training will be provided over 6–12 months for the right person. What matters most is your attitude, attention to detail and willingness to build a long-term career in a skilled manufacturing role.
This is not a short-term position. We are looking for someone who wants to learn properly, take pride in their work and become a valued part of a specialist production team.
The role
You will be trained to set and operate a range of specialist machinery used to produce highly accurate rolled metal products.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Setting and operating small rolling and bonding mills to achieve precise tolerances
- Operating slitting / shearing machines and maintaining steady, accurate results
- Working with fine-tolerance materials where patience, care and consistency are essential
- Carrying out basic calculations, including strip lengths and quantities
- Using Microsoft Excel as part of the production process
- Supporting other production activities within the rolled products area and elsewhere in the factory when required
- Working safely and following quality and production standards at all times
Hours
Monday to Thursday: 08:00–16:30
Friday: 08:00–15:00
Overtime may be available and can sometimes be required at short notice after 16:30 or on Saturday mornings.
What we’re looking for
This role would suit someone calm, practical and methodical, with a good mechanical understanding.
You must be:
- Mechanically minded and confident working with machinery
- Comfortable with fine detail, accuracy and precision work
- Patient enough to learn a specialist process properly
- Able to follow instructions, procedures and quality standards
- Confident with Microsoft Excel and basic calculations
- Reliable, focused and consistent in your work
- Willing to be flexible with overtime when needed
- Looking for a stable, long-term position rather than a short-term job
Nice to have, but not essential
The following would be useful, but full training can be provided:
- Previous experience in metal manufacturing
- Strip or coiled metal experience
- Apprentice-trained background
- Rolling mill experience
- Slitting or shearing experience
- Forklift licence
- Experience using ERP systems such as SAP
Why apply?
- Full training in a specialist manufacturing process
- Long-term, stable role with a respected manufacturer
- Early finish on Fridays
- Opportunity to develop highly skilled niche experience
- Practical, hands-on work where care and accuracy genuinely matter
- Supportive environment for someone who wants to learn and stay
The right person
The ideal candidate will be someone who takes pride in doing a job properly. You may come from manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, machining, metalwork, assembly or another hands-on mechanical background.
You do not need to know this industry already — but you do need to be steady, accurate, willing to learn and serious about building a long-term role.
Pay: £13.00-£15.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
