Location: Rowley Regis, West Midlands
Commitment: Full-Time (5 days/week, Term-Time Only)
Requirements: SEN Experience Essential | Full UK Driving Licence & Vehicle Required
Start Date: Immediate / Upcoming Academic Year
Are you an experienced, calm, and resilient SEN professional who excels at helping children navigate their emotions and thrive in the classroom?
Our supportive network of local schools is seeking a dedicated, full-time SEN Teaching Assistant based in the Rowley Regis area. This is a specialized role focused on supporting pupils with complex Special Educational Needs (SEN) who require targeted help with emotional regulation.
Because prior SEN experience is strictly essential, we are looking for someone who brings a proven toolkit of de-escalation strategies to keep the learning environment safe and productive. Additionally, because you will be providing consistent support across our partner school communities in and around the area, being able to drive and having your own transport is essential.
Why Choose Us?
- Full-Time Stability: Enjoy the consistency and peace of mind that comes with a guaranteed full-time, Monday-to-Friday schedule.
- A Supportive Local Network: Work within collaborative Rowley Regis school environments that highly value inclusive education, behavior support training, and staff well-being.
- Make a Profound Impact: Be the reassuring anchor a child needs to successfully navigate their school day and access their education.
Key Responsibilities
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting emotional well-being, behavior management, and classroom inclusion:
- De-Escalation & Crisis Support: Confidently utilize proven de-escalation techniques to handle challenging behaviors, defuse high-stress situations, and maintain a safe, positive classroom environment.
- Emotional Regulation & Nurture: Proactively support children with co-regulation and self-regulation strategies, helping them recognize emotional triggers and implement calming techniques before hitting a crisis point.
- In-Classroom Support: Keep pupils engaged with the curriculum by adapting learning activities on the fly, breaking down tasks, and keeping them focused alongside their peers.
- Tailored 1:1 Care: Deliver deeply personalized assistance to individual pupils with diverse, complex needs (such as SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or trauma-related behaviors).
- Regional Adaptability: Travel efficiently to and between local school sites in Rowley Regis to ensure consistent, reliable support for our pupils.
- Collaborative Tracking: Partner closely with class teachers, behavior teams, and SENDCos to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and report on emotional and academic progress.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven SEN experience is strictly essential—specifically working with children who exhibit social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) needs or complex behaviors.
- Strong de-escalation skills and experience using positive handling or behavior management frameworks (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA, or similar training is highly desirable).
- A deep understanding of childhood sensory needs, emotional regulation, and inclusive practices.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle (Essential).
- Exceptional patience, emotional resilience, and a grounded, calm presence under pressure.
How to Apply: If you have the specific SEN experience and de-escalation skills needed to empower our pupils in Rowley Regis, we want to hear from you today. Please submit your CV and highlight your relevant SEN background and driving status in your application.
