We are recruiting for a full-time Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Mitcham, supporting pupils across either the primary or secondary phase. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with students who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access their learning.
The role is available for an immediate start, with additional positions becoming available after the May half term (June start). This is a full-time, term-time only position, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:45pm, and is expected to continue on a long-term, ongoing basis, including into the next academic year (September).
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Work closely with teaching staff to deliver tailored support plans
- Help manage behaviour and promote a positive learning environment
- Build strong, supportive relationships with pupils
Pay: £92.56 – £100 per day (PAYE), depending on experience
Person Specification – Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for a committed and resilient individual who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs. The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience working with children or young people, ideally those with SEMH needs (school, youth work, care or similar settings)
- Be patient, empathetic and able to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Demonstrate strong behaviour management skills and remain calm under pressure
- Be proactive, adaptable and willing to support across both academic and pastoral needs
- Have good communication skills and work effectively as part of a team
- Show a genuine interest in supporting vulnerable students to achieve their full potential
This is a long-term, ongoing role, and candidates must be available to continue into the next academic year (September), providing consistency and stability for the pupils.
