The Tichborne Arms
Through widespread word of mouth and social media influence, The Tichborne Arms has become a landmark pub in the region with an outstanding reputation. Over the past year, we’ve gone from strength to strength and have recently been recognised in the Good Food Guide’s Top 100 pubs, placing at number 37 – a reflection of the consistency, care and ambition of our kitchen and front of house teams.
As junior Sous Chef or Sous Chef, you’ll play a crucial role supporting our Head Chef, Tom (ex Hicks, Soho Farmhouse and Sucre), who continues to lead the kitchen with clarity, creativity and high standards. Together, you’ll build on the strong foundations now in place, continuing to evolve and refine our food offering. This is a brilliant opportunity for a Sous Chef who wants to be part of something established but still moving forward – someone who can act as a true right-hand, contribute ideas and help drive standards day to day.
Working across both our indoor kitchen and outdoor fire kitchen, you’ll create bold, seasonal dishes using the best of local produce. Over the past year, we’ve expanded our kitchen garden significantly, taking on additional land and growing more of our own ingredients than ever before. Fire cooking remains at the heart of what we do, alongside our outdoor pizza kitchen, with a real focus on flavour, simplicity and quality.
This is an opportunity to continue developing your culinary and leadership skills within a well-regarded, ambitious independent business. We are progressive, fast-evolving and value our team’s input as we keep pushing things forward.
Job requirements
You’ll need to be a talented chef with a passion for fresh ingredients, a great eye for rustic-style presentation and a love of kitchen camaraderie. You’ll be able to bring out the best in others and take real pride in every successful service. A hygiene qualification, excellent food knowledge and proven allergen awareness are all essential. An interest in and knowledge of fire and grill cooking, smoking, foraging and kitchen gardening would be a strong advantage.
You must be able to thrive under pressure, communicate clearly, and lead a team with high standards. Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Junior Sous Chef in a similar setting is essential.
Who are we?
The Tichborne Arms is an independent country pub and gardens run by award-winning pub entrepreneurs Susie and Joel Czopor, a husband and wife team passionate about hospitality. Being good hosts matters deeply to them, and their ultimate aim is simple: make sure everybody has a really great time – customers and team alike.
What do we do?
Good hospitality is straightforward – though not always done right. A great pub should feel open to all. It should be clean, warm, comfortable and welcoming. Service should be friendly, efficient and genuine. Food should be delicious, generous, and thoughtfully priced. Drinks should be well-chosen and well-served. Local suppliers should be represented in every part of the experience. The local community should feel at home.
In short, that’s what we’re here to create and protect.
Our values:
- Our customers are treasured – they keep our pub alive
- We are highly professional – we work hard and take our work, but not ourselves, seriously
- We like to enjoy our work and have fun
- We are optimistic, confident and always improving
- We respect heritage without living in the past
- We treat people with respect and civility
- We acknowledge and reward those who go the extra mile
- We contribute to the community we’re part of
