Job Overview
The Commissioning Engineer role offers the opportunity to work on the commissioning of advanced automated and control systems. This position involves developing, testing, and commissioning PLC- and robot-controlled solutions, supporting customers both on-site and remotely, and contributing to the delivery of complex engineering projects across a range of industries.
Key ResponsibilitiesPLC & Control Systems Development
- Develop and program PLC software using:
- Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
- Siemens S7 / TIA Portal
- Create structured ladder logic, statement lists, and function blocks.
- Design and develop PLC and SCADA systems.
- Configure system communications, including:
- Ethernet
- Modbus
- Profibus
Drives, Controls & Automation
- Set up and commission AC/DC drives and inverters.
- Apply PID control principles for the regulation of:
- Flow
- Level
- Pressure
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Support development of robot and PLC software solutions.
Testing, Commissioning & Support
- Perform testing and validation of hardware and software systems.
- Carry out on-site commissioning of new systems within the UK and internationally.
- Provide remote technical support, including fault-finding and diagnostics.
- Deliver customer training during commissioning and handover phases.
Skills & Experience - Essential
- Significant experience in PLC programming.
- PLC and SCADA system design and development experience.
- Strong background in systems, software, and hardware development.
- Ability to fault-find and troubleshoot complex automation systems.
Desirable
- Experience with Ignition SCADA systems.
- Exposure to robotic automation and integrated control systems.
Qualifications - Preferred
- BEng or MEng in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline (or equivalent).
Considered
- BTEC qualification with substantial controls and automation experience.
Travel Requirements
- Role is based from manufacturing facilities in Telford.
- Regular UK and international travel is required.
- A full driving licence and valid passport are essential.
