We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants to work in a specialist education setting supporting children and young people with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Complex Needs and PMLD. This role is ideal for compassionate, resilient individuals who are looking to build a long-term career in SEND, with the opportunity to go permanent after 12 weeks.
Class sizes are small (no more than 12 students per class), allowing you to provide meaningful, individualised support.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to support pupils with highly individual needs in a safe and nurturing environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Supporting pupils with complex physical, sensory, communication and emotional needs
- Assisting with personal care, including feeding, toileting, hygiene and mobility (essential)
- Using specialist equipment and adapting learning activities
- Encouraging independence, engagement and emotional regulation
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
This is a hands-on and highly rewarding role, ideal for those who are patient, empathetic and committed.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in care, personal care, support work, health & social care, early years, or similar
- Lived or informal experience with SEN (e.g. supporting a family member with additional needs) is also valid and welcomed
- Confidence supporting individuals with SLD, complex needs or PMLD
- A calm, compassionate and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Full-time availability (8:30am–3:30pm, Monday–Friday)
- Full right to work in the UK (essential)
No previous school-based experience is required — transferable skills and the right attitude are key.
