Job Advert: Assistant Depot Manager
Location: Westward Ho!
Basic Salary: £34,000 - £40,000 DOE
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm - Weekends on rotation
Are you a Vehicle Technician who is ready to take the next step in your career?
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on technician who wants to move towards management while still using their technical skills in the workshop.
You will be joining a busy automotive service and repair centre with a strong local customer base, a supportive team and genuine opportunities to develop. This role would suit someone who enjoys dealing with customers, supporting colleagues and helping a workshop run smoothly, but who does not want to move completely away from the tools just yet.
As Assistant Centre Manager, you will work closely with the Centre Manager and receive training across all areas of running a successful automotive service operation. This includes customer service, team support, workshop planning, sales, performance, administration and day-to-day centre management.
This is a genuine step-up role for someone who has experience in vehicle servicing, repairs or fast-fit work and now wants more responsibility, more variety and a clear route into management.
The role
You will support the Centre Manager with the daily running of the centre, helping to make sure customers receive a professional service and the workshop operates efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the Centre Manager with day-to-day operations
Helping plan and organise work through the workshop
Assisting customers with enquiries, bookings and updates
Supporting the team to deliver high standards of service and repair work
Carrying out light vehicle servicing, maintenance or fast-fit repairs when required
Helping the centre meet sales, service and performance targets
Supporting stock, administration and general centre processes
Helping build a strong local reputation through excellent customer service
Stepping up to support the centre when priorities change
This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You will be involved with customers, technicians, service operations and the commercial side of the centre.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for someone with a technical background who is ready to develop into a leadership role.
You may currently be working as a Vehicle Technician, Service Technician, Mechanic, Fast-Fit Technician, MOT Tester, Senior Technician or Workshop Controller and feel ready for more responsibility.
Previous management experience is not essential. What matters most is your attitude, technical understanding, customer focus and willingness to learn.
You will need:
A minimum Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance, or equivalent experience
Experience in vehicle servicing, repairs or fast-fit work
The confidence to speak with customers in a professional way
A proactive and positive approach
Good organisation skills
A team-focused attitude
A desire to progress into management
A commercial mindset and willingness to help achieve centre targets
A full UK driving licence would be preferred
Why this role?
This is a great move for a technician who wants to progress but does not want to be thrown into management without support.
You will work alongside an experienced Centre Manager who will help train you in the key areas of running a successful automotive centre, including people, customers, workshop performance, sales, profit and administration.
You will still be hands-on when needed, but you will also start building the skills needed to move into a more senior role in the future.
