We are looking for a motivated and customer-focused Sales / Yard Assistant to join our team. This is a varied and hands-on role where you will play a key part in the smooth and efficient running of the branch, supporting both sales and yard operations.
You’ll be responsible for delivering excellent customer service, maximising sales opportunities, and ensuring the safe handling and movement of stock. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of customer interaction and practical work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Customer Service
- Provide a high level of service to both new and existing customers
- Build strong relationships with customers and suppliers
- Handle telephone enquiries professionally and effectively
- Prepare sales quotations and price projects accurately
- Offer product knowledge and technical advice where required
- Identify and pursue opportunities to grow sales and margins
- Process cash transactions, refunds, and till operations accurately
Yard & Operations
- Safely load and unload vehicles
- Handle, transport, and store materials securely
- Assist customers with loading goods when required
- Prepare customer orders in line with instructions
- Maintain high standards of stock control and organisation
- Ensure the yard is clean, tidy, and free from hazards
- Check and inspect incoming goods and complete relevant paperwork
- Support stock distribution to production or warehouse areas
- Ensure skips are emptied and general site upkeep is maintained
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures at all times
- Ensure safe storage and secure strapping of materials for delivery
- Carry out daily checks and reporting for equipment (e.g. forklifts)
- Report any defects in plant or machinery promptly
General Duties
- Support the Branch Manager and wider team as required
- Maintain high presentation standards across the site
- Participate in training to develop product and industry knowledge
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested
About You
- Passionate about delivering excellent customer service
- Strong communication skills, both face-to-face and over the phone
- A team player with a proactive and flexible approach
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, physical environment
- Willingness to learn and develop product knowledge
- Forklift licence (desirable, but training can be provided)

Pay: £27,760.00-£30,000.00 per year

Experience:
- Builders Merchants: 1 year (required)
- Sales : 1 year (preferred)
