Discount Builders Merchants is looking for a proactive, organised and detail-focused
E-Commerce Assistant to support the growth of our online sales channels.
This is an office-based role at our Northfleet branch. The successful candidate will be required to work on-site with our e-commerce, sales and operations teams. Please note that this is not a remote or hybrid role, and working from home is not available.
This role is ideal for someone who is interested in e-commerce, online marketplaces, product listings, digital marketing and website administration.
The successful candidate will help manage and improve our product listings across multiple platforms, support website content updates, assist with online advertising and reporting, and help ensure our online customers receive accurate product information and a professional experience.
This is a varied role that will suit someone who is confident using computers, has strong attention to detail, can manage multiple tasks, and is keen to learn how a growing e-commerce operation works within a builders merchant environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Listings and Marketplace Management
Manage, update and maintain product listings across our online sales channels, including marketplace platforms and our own websites.
Ensure product titles, descriptions, prices, images, specifications, pack sizes and delivery information are accurate and consistent.
Create clear, customer-friendly product descriptions that reduce confusion and help customers make the right purchase.
Monitor listings for errors, missing information, incorrect images, pricing issues or competitor/product data problems.
Assist with adding new products, updating existing ranges and improving underperforming listings.
Help maintain accurate product data using spreadsheets, supplier information and internal systems.
Website and Content Management
Update website content, product pages, landing pages and promotional content.
Support basic website improvements to make navigation, product information and customer experience clearer.
Assist with writing product copy, blog content, newsletters, promotional messages and customer-facing information.
Ensure all online content is written clearly, professionally and in line with the company’s tone and standards.
SEO and Digital Marketing
Support SEO improvements across product pages, categories and website content.
Research keywords and help optimise titles, descriptions and page content to improve organic visibility.
Assist with Google Ads, social media content, email marketing and promotional campaigns.
Help identify opportunities to improve online traffic, conversion rates and product visibility.
Images and Visual Content
Help create simple promotional graphics, listing images, website banners or marketing visuals where required.
Ensure images are clear, consistent, professional and suitable for e-commerce platforms.
Reporting and Analysis
Use Excel, Google Analytics, marketplace reports and advertising data to help review performance.
Assist with producing reports on sales, traffic, product performance, advertising results and customer trends.
Identify patterns, issues or opportunities from online sales data, such as popular products, locations, seasonal trends or low-performing listings.
Support management with useful insights that help improve sales, profitability and customer experience.
Administration and Team Support
Assist with general e-commerce administration, including spreadsheets, product data, marketplace queries and order-related information.
Work with the sales, warehouse and management teams to resolve listing, stock, customer or delivery-related issues.
Communicate clearly with internal teams and external partners where required.
Help organise tasks, deadlines and project updates using Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Support product launches, website updates, promotions and other e-commerce projects.
Required Skills and Experience
Strong attention to detail and the ability to spot mistakes in product information, pricing, images or descriptions.
Good computer literacy and confidence using online systems.
Strong written English with the ability to write clear product descriptions and customer-facing content.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including sorting, filtering and working with product data.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively.
Good communication skills and the confidence to work with different departments.
A practical, problem-solving mindset with the ability to investigate issues and suggest improvements.
Willingness to learn about e-commerce, marketplace selling, digital marketing and builders merchant products.
Desirable Skills
Experience with e-commerce platforms, online marketplaces or product listing management.
Knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics, Google Ads or email marketing platforms.
Experience using Shopify or similar website platforms.
Basic Iimage editing experience.
Experience with social media content creation or digital marketing campaigns.
Knowledge of building materials, landscaping products, aggregates, paving or trade supplies.
Experience working in a retail, trade, merchant, warehouse, sales or customer service environment.

Working Location
This is an office-based role at our Northfleet branch.
The successful candidate will be required to work on-site as part of the team. This is not a remote or hybrid position, and working from home is not available.
Working Hours
Our branch and office working hours are:
Monday to Friday: 7:00am – 5:30pm
Saturday: 7:00am – 3:30pm
Sunday: Closed
The exact working pattern, contracted hours and any Saturday rota requirements will be confirmed during the recruitment process.
Pay
Pay will be confirmed depending on experience and suitability for the role.
