With increasing demand for British-made productions, particularly in Manchester and throughout the North, we're looking for an experienced joiner to join our growing full-time team.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated HGV Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, repair, and inspection of our fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), ensuring they remain safe, reliable, and compliant with all relevant regulations.
In addition to our HGV fleet, you will also support the maintenance and repair of a small fleet of vans and company vehicles. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician who takes pride in delivering high-quality workmanship and enjoys working in a varied and hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine inspections, servicing, and preventative maintenance on HGVs and company vehicles.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
- Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension components, and other vehicle systems.
- Maintain accurate records of servicing, repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety regulations and industry standards.
- Assist with the identification and ordering of parts and materials required for repairs and servicing.
- Conduct vehicle testing following repairs to ensure roadworthiness and operational performance.
- Arrange and coordinate MOT appointments and, where required, transport vehicles and trailers for MOTs and brake tests.
- Maintain and service the company’s grey fleet, including routine repairs and maintenance.
- Manage tyre replacements, repairs, and regrooving where appropriate.
- Support the upkeep of a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic, HGV Technician, or in a similar heavy vehicle maintenance role.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and vehicle diagnostics.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent qualification.
- HGV licence and/or additional heavy vehicle certifications.
- Experience working with trailers and fleet maintenance operations.
