Overview
This role is to support the Registered Manager in the day to day running of the home and to display confidence and initiative in their absence. Shared responsibility for a team of staff and work allocations, as well as undertaking direct work with children in the residential home.

Your Role
- You will support the Registered Manager in ensuring compliance with the organisational Policy and Procedures.
- You will be required to Safeguard and promote the welfare and development of the young people, ensuring their individual needs are recognised and met where possible and ensuring that the home provides an environment that is safe and sensitive to the needs of the young people being looked after.
- You are required to support the manager and team with the admission process, ensuring the home is welcoming and reflects the expectations of their individual care plan. You will support the manager and the team to ensure that when the young person comes to leave the home that this is done sensitively and within the company’s policy and procedures and to work with the manager and team towards the most positive outcomes for the young person.
- You are required to oversee the development of the service, and monitor, review and update the young people’s outcomes and paperwork, through robust quality auditing processes. You are required to ensure safer recruitment practices are followed monitored and recorded effectively.
- You are required to ensure safe medication practices are checked and monitored regularly.
- You will carry out supervisions and appraisals with the staff team, ensuring there is a pathway for personal development.
- You will ensure effective reflective practice activities take place regularly.
- You are required to complete on call duties as and when required in line with management rota. There is an On call payment of £100 for On call cover at the weekends covering Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- You are required to be flexible in hours of work, in order to meet tasks required.
- Salary is inclusive of one sleep over per week at the rate of £82
Job Description
It is essential to develop and maintain good working relationships with parents, social workers, schools and other professionals involved with the welfare of the young people. You will plan, manage and lead shifts ensuring children are kept safe and engaged throughout the day.
Ensure that all staff comply with the rotas and are included on a ‘rolling rota’ to gain maximum experience in the working methods of other staff, supporting the registered manager in rota management to meet current legislation, ensuring there is an adequate skill, experience and qualification mix.
To mentor and support staff in all aspects of recording and reporting significant incidents and Safeguarding concerns, ensuring all information is shared with the relevant parties within agreed timescale.
To ensure that all staff are familiar with Policies and Guidance with regard to the care of children. To ensure that all staff under your supervision undertake and complete training in accordance with their induction training schedule and all other assigned training. To work with the registered manager to develop a yearly service training plan.
To be aware of Health and Safety regulations particularly as related to the upkeep of the building and its surroundings.

Qualifications/ Experience required
- Must be fully qualified in residential childcare holding HNC & SVQ 3 (Children & young people) and SVQ 4 or working towards this qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience of working within residential childcare or similar role.
- An understanding of up-to-date legislation around children's residential care safeguarding vulnerable young people and adults.
Essential qualities
- Knowledge of residential childcare in theory and its application to care practice.
- Understanding of key legislation and policy drivers concerning residential childcare.
- Knowledge, experience and understanding of Care Inspectorate quality framework and care standards.
- Ability to interact well with children and young people and their care teams.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work in an empathic, supportive, and non-judgmental manner.
- Capability to coach, mentor and motivate individuals and teams.
- A commitment to upholding the UNCRC rights of every child and young person.
- Excellent organisational skills.
