Support Worker – Supported Accommodation (16–21-Year-Old Care Leavers)

Social Care Gateway is looking for caring, reliable and committed Support Workers to join our team, supporting young people aged 16–21 in our supported accommodation service in Dudley.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping young people build confidence, develop independent living skills and achieve positive outcomes.
About the Role
As a Support Worker, you will provide practical and emotional support to young people, helping them prepare for independent adulthood. You will build positive relationships, encourage personal development and ensure a safe, supportive environment.
You will work closely with the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and other professionals to deliver high-quality, person-centred support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day support to young people aged 16–21.
- Promote independence and teach life skills, including budgeting, cooking, shopping, cleaning and tenancy responsibilities.
- Support young people to access education, employment, training and healthcare services.
- Build positive, professional relationships based on trust and respect.
- Maintain accurate daily records, support notes and incident reports.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and report any concerns immediately.
- Carry out key worker responsibilities, including regular one-to-one support sessions.
- Support young people to achieve the goals set out in their support plans.
- Work in partnership with social workers, personal advisers, education providers and other professionals.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision and mandatory training.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care, Children and Young People’s Workforce or an equivalent qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- At least 1 year’s experience supporting vulnerable young people, care leavers or individuals with complex needs in a social care setting.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Good written and IT skills for accurate record keeping.
- Flexible approach to working shifts, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (preferred).
- Right to work in the UK.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable
- Experience working within supported accommodation for young people aged 16–21.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
- Understanding of the needs of care leavers.
- Experience supporting young people with emotional or behavioural challenges.
