Duration: 12 weeks with a possible extension.
Job Purpose
To carry out a wide range of groundworks, civil engineering, and maintenance activities across the council's highways, public spaces, parks, housing estates, and other council-owned assets.
The post holder will contribute to the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of construction, repair, and maintenance projects that support local communities.
Responsibilities
- Undertake excavation, drainage, concreting, paving, kerbing, and surfacing works
- Install and repair footpaths, roadways, drainage systems, and associated infrastructure
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and small plant machinery safely and effectively
- Assist with construction, maintenance, and repair projects across council properties and public areas
- Carry out groundwork preparation for building, landscaping, and civil engineering activities
- Install and maintain fencing, street furniture, signage, and other public realm features
- Load, unload, and transport materials, equipment, and waste as required
- Ensure work areas are kept safe, clean, and compliant with health and safety regulations
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and report defects promptly
