We are looking to recruit a motivated and compassionate Band 4 Assistant Practitioner to join our Cleddau Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) and Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) team.

This post is advertised as a Band 4 and ideally candidates for this role must have achieved the Level 4 vocational qualification in a relevant health care associated subject / Certificate in Higher Education Health Care Support Worker. However applicants who do not currently hold the qualification for the Band 4 role who have completed the 1st year of study, are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will need to attain the qualification within 12 months and will be appointed under Annex 21 rules.
This means they will be supported by a development plan. During the 12 months payment will be 75% of the top rate of band 4 pay. Following successful passing of the Level 4 vocational qualification in a relevant health care associated subject / Certificate in Higher Education Health Care Support Worker the post holder will then be paid at Band 4 (minimum point on the scale). Support and supervision will be provided in order to develop the successful applicant to the Band 4 role. Failure to achieve the qualification in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.
As part of the Annex 21 process, there is no financial penalty to those who apply for this role where the percentage will cause a reduction in pay, subsequently a local protection would be put in place until the pay has caught up.
Undertake a wide range of delegated clinical tasks in line with Level 4 competency requirements, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
Support the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Contribute to improving the patient experience, promoting independence and supporting patients to maximise their functional ability.
Carry out clinical observations, escalate concerns appropriately, and accurately document all findings in line with Health Board policy.
Assist with personal care needs, including washing, dressing, continence support, mobility, nutrition, and hydration, maintaining dignity at all times.
