A Site Labourer supports construction and maintenance activities by performing a variety of manual tasks to ensure work sites operate safely and efficiently. The role involves assisting tradespeople, handling materials, maintaining site cleanliness, and following health and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist skilled tradespeople such as bricklayers, carpenters, electricians, and plumbers
- Load, unload, and move construction materials, tools, and equipment
- Prepare and clean work areas before, during, and after construction activities
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and perform other groundworks as required
- Erect and dismantle temporary barriers, signage, and site facilities when instructed
- Dispose of waste materials and maintain a tidy, safe work environment
- Follow all site health and safety regulations and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Report hazards, accidents, or damaged equipment to supervisors
- Assist with deliveries and storage of materials
- Carry out other general labouring duties as directed by management
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions accurately
Desirable:
- Previous construction or labouring experience
- Valid CSCS card (for UK construction sites)
- Experience using construction tools and equipment
- Driving licence
Working Conditions:
- Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Regular lifting, carrying, bending, and manual handling
- May require early starts, overtime, or weekend work depending on project requirements
Salary:
£16.85 p/h
