Job Description:
The Chargehand is responsible for overseeing the daily operations within the depot, ensuring the efficient preparation, maintenance, and dispatch of equipment. This role involves leading a team of yard operatives, maintaining health and safety standards, and ensuring customer orders are fulfilled accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
· Supervise and assist with the preparation, maintenance, and dispatch of equipment.
· Ensure all equipment is cleaned, inspected, and repaired upon return.
· Assist in loading and unloading, ensuring safe handling of equipment.
· Maintain stock levels and report shortages or damaged equipment.
· Work closely with the hire desk and Forman to ensure timely and accurate order processing.
· Lead and motivate a team of yard operatives, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
· Provide on-the-job training to new staff on equipment handling and depot procedures.
· Act as the first point of contact for resolving operational issues within the team.
Health & Safety:
· Ensure all depot operations adhere to company health and safety regulations.
· Conduct regular checks on workshop equipment i.e. FLT, Crains and other equipment.
· Report any safety concerns or incidents to Yard Forman or Operations Manager immediately.
· Enforce safe working practices among the team, including manual handling and equipment usage.
Skills & Experience:
· Previous experience in a similar role leading a team.
· Good understanding of health and safety.
· Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work under pressure and meet order deadlines.
· Hands-on approach with a proactive attitude.
· Attention to detail.
· Excellent time management and attendance is a must.
· Able to commit to overtime at short notice and been the first one in and the last one out on a daily basis.
£33,930 Annual plus paid overtime.
