If so, this could be an excellent opportunity to join a busy Community Facilities & Resources Team supporting the day-to-day operation of a community centre and associated facilities.
Your Duties:
- Ensure that the Community Centre and Sea Cadets Building are maintained in a clean, safe and presentable condition for all users.
- Carry out a full range of caretaking duties, including minor repairs, replacing light bulbs and plugs, and maintaining equipment where appropriate.
- Set up and dismantle rooms, furniture and equipment for Council staff, community groups and organisations.
- Provide assistance to users of the facilities, including the preparation of refreshments and light snacks where required.
- Undertake cleaning duties throughout the premises, including sweeping, washing, vacuuming, polishing, cleaning kitchens and toilet facilities, and emptying litter bins.
- Clean internal windows on a regular basis and ensure all areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.
- Secure the building when required, ensuring all rooms are checked, lights switched off, bins emptied and premises locked.
- Act as a designated key holder and respond to emergencies involving the facility when necessary.
- Monitor the use of the building's car park and ensure the area remains clean, safe and free from obstructions or debris.
- Remove leaves, litter and other hazards from external areas surrounding the building.
- Salt and clear snow from car park areas and access routes during periods of adverse weather.
- Report defects, damages and maintenance issues in accordance with Council procedures.
- Carry out required checks and procedures relating to the operation and use of Community Minibuses.
- Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety legislation, Council policies and relevant operational procedures.
- Undertake fire safety responsibilities, including fire warden duties and emergency evacuation procedures where appropriate.
- Conduct routine inspections of fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, electronic counters, hand dryers and other equipment, maintaining accurate records.
- Deal with enquiries from members of the public regarding room hire and minibus bookings outside normal office hours.
- Process and receipt payments for room hire when required and provide occasional reception cover.
- Promote equality of opportunity and ensure accessible service delivery for all customers.
- Deliver excellent customer service and contribute positively to the reputation and public image of the Council.
- Comply with all Council policies, procedures and expected standards of conduct.
- Undertake additional duties as reasonably required to support service delivery and cover periods of staff absence.
Your Profile:
- 5 GCSEs (A-C grade), NVQ level 2, or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year’s experience as a caretaker with specific experience in at least three of the following areas: cleaning, maintenance, equipment handling, security, or first aid.
- If lacking the qualifications above, candidates must demonstrate three years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, CoSHH, and stock-taking for cleaning materials.
Additional Information:
- Part time, Temporary, as and when required.
- 18.5 hours per week, 2 evenings and 3 mornings per week with some flexibility.
