An exciting opportunity has become available at a well-established, successful and respected family-owned farming business with sites across the UK. We are the largest grower and distributor of turf in the UK and also run a successful arable enterprise as well as growing sedum and wildflower mat products. We run major farming enterprises in Norfolk and Lancashire, supported by turf distribution depots in Northamptonshire, Runcorn and Edinburgh. As the UK’s largest grower of turf — and a producer of wildflower, sedum and a range of arable crops — we are committed to sustainable farming, high standards and a supportive team culture.
Our 2,700‑acre mixed arable farm in Norfolk grows potatoes, cereals and sugar beet, alongside turf, wildflower and sedum production.
We run a large fleet of machinery including specialist turf, potato and other agricultural machinery.
The opportunity is at our Feltwell (Norfolk) farm which comprises 1,445 ha in total of arable and turf grown on prime soils around Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. The desired candidate will train as an apprentice within our small team of engineers in our new purpose built 900m² workshop at Feltwell, Norfolk.
Alongside working towards an approved college qualification (Land-based Service Engineering Standard Level 2/3), you will gain the skills required to diagnose problems, attend breakdowns and carry out scheduled maintenance on our extensive fleet of agricultural machinery.
What will you be doing?
· Repairing & servicing machinery and equipment.
· The diagnosis & rectification of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic & functional problems with tractors and machinery.
· To maintain on-site vehicles and machinery fleet.
· Ensuring down-time of essential machinery is minimised
· To ensure all breakdowns are attended as swiftly and efficiently as possible.
· Ensuring work is carried out to a high standard to meet expectations.
· Ensuring that all work/maintenance is recorded and carried out in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures
· General farm worker duties as and when required
What will you need?
· As our apprentice you will need an appetite for learning and an enthusiasm for the industry.
· A desire to be part of the business and enjoy the variety the role will bring
· Knowledge of agricultural equipment would be preferred but not essential as full training on systems and products will be provided.
· Apprentices are required to have achieved English & Maths at GCSE A-C or 4 & above, or Functional Skills Level 2.
· Some flexibility with respect to working hours
