Electronic Design Engineer

This is an opportunity for an ambitious Electronic Design Engineer to work on real-world electronic products used across the energy sector, within a growing and highly specialised engineering environment.
As an Electronic Design Engineer, you will join an experienced design team focused on developing electricity metering and energy-related technology for high-volume manufacture. The role offers a varied blend of electronic design, PCB development, embedded systems, prototyping, testing, and product approval work, giving you the chance to play a key role across the full product lifecycle. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, improving product performance, and seeing their designs become commercially manufactured products used at scale.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design analogue, digital, and embedded electronic systems based around microcontrollers
- Create schematics and PCB layouts using PCB design software
- Develop and test electronic prototypes to validate functionality and performance
- Support the transition from prototype through to high-volume manufacturing
- Assist with product approvals and compliance to recognised standards including CE, MIR, and MID
- Work closely with embedded firmware and mechanical design teams during product development
- Produce technical specifications, engineering documentation, and design reports
- Support manufacturing teams with design-for-manufacture improvements
- Participate in product testing, debugging, and performance optimisation
- Work in line with ISO 9001 quality procedures
- Travel internationally when required, particularly within Asia, to support manufacturing and export activity
Skills and Experience:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
- Previous experience as an Electronic Design Engineer working on microcontroller-based products
- Strong understanding of analogue and digital electronic design
- Experience producing PCB schematics and layouts using PCB design tools
- Ability to develop and test prototypes from concept through to production
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and scalable product design
- Experience working on embedded electronic systems
- Knowledge of product compliance standards would be beneficial
- Experience using Mentor Graphics PADs would be advantageous
- Strong problem-solving ability with a hands-on engineering mindset
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering team
Pay and Benefits:
- Salary up to £50,000
