About the role:
Movr Plus is hiring a patient, reliable minibus driver to transport a mix of special educational needs (SEN) and mainstream pupils safely to and from school across London. You will drive a company-provided minibus on pre-planned routes, working closely with passenger assistants and schools to give every child a calm, consistent journey.
Outside of the school run, there are genuine opportunities to pick up additional paid work — airport transfers, day trips, private hire and weekend contracts — during term-time evenings and across school holidays. Rates for this additional work are discussed separately and paid on top of the weekly base pay.
We operate under local authority safeguarding frameworks (such as Surrey County Council's SSTAT Authorised Identity Badge scheme and equivalent schemes elsewhere in Greater London). If you don't yet hold the relevant certificates — MiDAS, PATS, safeguarding, first aid — we will fund and support the training for the right candidate.
What you'll do
- School transport — safely collect and drop off SEN and mainstream pupils on designated routes, Monday to Friday, term-time only.
- Safeguarding in practice — support passenger assistants, ensure every child boards and leaves the vehicle safely, and follow Movr Plus safeguarding procedures at all times.
- Vehicle readiness — complete daily walk-around and safety checks, report defects, and keep the minibus clean and presentable.
- Compliance — follow drivers' hours, tachograph (where applicable), road traffic, safeguarding and local authority requirements.
- Representing us well — be the friendly, professional face of Movr Plus with pupils, parents and school staff.
- Optional extras — if you want them, pick up additional runs such as airport transfers, day trips, weekend work and holiday contracts.
What we're looking forEssential
- Full UK PCV licence — category D or D1 without the 101 restriction (so you can drive for hire and reward).
- Valid Driver CPC qualification card.
- Enhanced DBS check issued within the last 12 months, or willingness to apply for one before starting (we can support the application).
- Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) or paediatric first aid certificate (current).
- Working knowledge of wheelchair tie-down and occupant restraint systems (WTORS), passenger lifts/ramps, and safe manual handling.
- Good spoken English and clear, calm communication with children, parents and school staff.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable — training and safeguarding (we'll fund these if you don't have them)
- Minibus driving experience — at least 1 year as a bus or minibus driver, or in a similar professional driving role.
- Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) or paediatric first aid certificate (current).
- Working knowledge of wheelchair tie-down and occupant restraint systems (WTORS), passenger lifts/ramps, and safe manual handling.
- MiDAS — a current Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme certificate (valid within the last 4 years). This is the industry standard for minibus driving assessments and is often required by local authority insurers.
- PATS — Passenger Assistant Training Scheme, particularly Module A (core) and Module C1 (supporting children and young people with special needs).
- Local authority badge — a current Authorised Identity Badge (AIB) from Surrey County Council's SSTAT scheme, or an equivalent school-transport badge from another London borough or home county council. If you don't have one, you'll go through the SSTAT (or equivalent) vetting process with our support — this includes an enhanced DBS, right-to-work, English language check, and Barnardo's online safeguarding training.
- Safeguarding training — a current Level 1 safeguarding certificate (e.g. Barnardo's online safeguarding for school transport, or equivalent).
- SEN experience — previous experience driving or supporting children or adults with special educational needs, disabilities, autism, or other additional needs.
- London knowledge — strong working knowledge of London roads, school zones and peak-time traffic patterns.
What we offer
- Weekly pay — £425 per week for agreed term-time routes and hours (approx. £13–£15 per hour).
- Company vehicle — a fully-maintained minibus, fuel card and uniform provided.
- Extra earnings — optional weekend, evening, ad-hoc and holiday work to top up your income.
- Parking — free on-site parking at our depot, plus parking at selected school routes.
- Term-time rhythm — predictable split-shift pattern with school holidays off (or extra work if you want it).
Our recruitment process
Because this role involves transporting children, it is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You will be asked to disclose all convictions (including spent ones, subject to filtering rules). Appointment is subject to an Enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, a licence and CPC check, proof of right to work in the UK, and — where required by the contracting local authority — completion of the SSTAT (Surrey) or equivalent Authorised Identity Badge process. We carry out documented daily vehicle checks and 6-monthly driving licence re-checks as standard.
We are committed to safer recruitment and to safeguarding the welfare of every child and vulnerable passenger we transport.
A few quick questions when you apply
- Do you hold a current Enhanced DBS check issued within the last 12 months (or are you willing to obtain one before starting)?
